As a result of the huge 80% budget cut announced at Radio Canada International on April 4, 2012 we are working on an action plan – part of it involves your help. Thanks for your support!

It is CBC/Radio-Canada, not Canada’s federal government, that so severely cut the budget and services of Radio Canada International. But it is the government that can step in, stop the cut, and protect RCI.

How can you help?

How can you help stop this drastic cut of 80% of Radio Canada International’s budget?
Please write to Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, and Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore.  (See addresses below.) If they are your Member of Parliament, please mention that as well.
Ask whether CBC/Radio-Canada should be deciding how strong or weak Canada’s Voice to the World should be?
Whether they feel comfortable with the fact our Chinese audience will now be cut off from RCI’s uncensored news about Canada and the World.
We feel because of the continuing cuts to RCI since 1990 (See: http://rciaction.org/blog), the government should give RCI financial autonomy and take RCI’s budget away from CBC/Radio-Canada’s control.
If you agree with us, please make your point of view heard.
We have very little time to achieve our goal. We’re counting on you.
Some points you might want to bring up with the ministers or your Member of Parliament:
  • RCI’s budget has been cut by more than 80% – from $12.3 million to $2.3 million
  • RCI newsroom will be eliminated, all newscasts cut
  • RCI will no longer be a broadcaster, whether on shortwave or satellite
  • Chinese audience will be cut off from uncensored news from RCI because only shortwave reaches the Chinese, the RCI website is blocked by China
  • Important potential trading partners such as China, India, Russia, Brazil will be cut off from news from Canada, because the RCI website is blocked or the Internet not as accessible as in North America
  • As Canadians we feel it’s essential Canada have a Voice to the World producing programming tailored for an audience not familiar with Canada
  • Canada’s Voice to the World has been a respected source of journalism for the past 67 years
Please consider sending an e-mail to the three ministers, even if you live outside Canada. If you are in Canada, you can send letters free to the ministers, MPs and Senators.

Comment pouvez-vous mettre un stop à ces compressions de 80 % de Radio Canada International?
Écrivez s’il vous plait au ministre canadien des Affaires extérieures, John Baird ainsi qu’au ministre des Finances, Jim  Flaherty et au ministre de Patrimoine Canada ( voir les adresses ci-dessous ). Si ces personnes sont aussi votre député à la  Chambre des Communes, mentionnez-le-leur également.
Demandez-leur: est-ce que CBC/Radio Canada devrait-elle être celle qui décide la force ou la faiblesse de la voix canadienne dans le monde?

Demandez-leur: êtes-vous à l’aise avec le fait que notre auditoire chinois international ne pourra plus obtenir une  information non censurée sur le Canada, la Chine et le monde?
Nous sommes d’avis qu’en raison d’une succession de compressions budgétaires à Radio Canada International depuis 1990 ( voir  blogue http://rciaction.org/blog) le gouvernement doit donner à RCI une autonomie financière et retirer des mains de Radio Canada le  contrôle budgétaire de RCI .
Si vous être d’accord avec nous, écrivez s’il-vous plait et donnez votre opinion aux ministres responsables canadiens.
Nous avons très peu de temps pour atteindre notre objectif. Nous comptons sur vous.
  • Quelques points que vous pouvez aussi ajouter dans vos lettres aux ministres responsables:
  • Le budget de RCI à été coupé de plus de 80 % – de $12,3 millions à 2,3 millions
  • Le service des nouvelles de RCI sera éliminé; tous les bulletins de nouvelles coupés
  • RCI ne sera plus un diffuseur d’émissions sur ondes courtes ou sur satellites
  • L’auditoire chinois sera privé d’information non censurée en provenance du Canada
  • Des partenaires économiques potentiellement important tel que la Chine, l’Inde, le Brésil seront coupés du Canada, car le site  web de RCI y est bloqué ou l’internet n’y est pas aussi facilement accessible qu’en Amérique du Nord.
  • Comme Canadiens nous pensons qu’il est essentiel que le Canada soit une voix dans le monde en produisant une programmation  sur mesure pour un auditoire qui connait peu le Canada.
  • La Voix du Canada dans le monde est une source respectée en journalisme depuis 67 ans

Por favor escriba a Relaciones Exteriores de Canadá, a John Baird, Ministro de Relaciones, al ministro de Finanzas, Jim Flaherty, al ministro del  Patrimonio Canadiense James Moore. (Ver direcciones abajo). Si son sus miembros del Parlamento, por favor mencione eso también.
Pregunte si CBC / Radio-Canada  debe decidir cuán grande o pequeña  debería ser la  voz de Canadá al  mundo?
Pregunte cómo se sienten con el hecho de saber que el público chino ahora no tendrá acceso  a noticias sin censura sobre Canadá y el mundo.
Creemos que debido a los cortes continuos a RCI desde 1990 (ver: rciaction.org / blog), el gobierno debe darle  autonomía financiera a RCI y dejar el presupuesto de RCI fuera del control de CBC / Radio-Canada.
Si está de acuerdo con nosotros, por favor haga que su opinión sea escuchada.
Tenemos muy poco tiempo para lograr nuestro objetivo. Necesitamos de su ayuda.
Algunos de los puntos a mencionar a  los ministros o miembros de su Parlamento:
• El presupuesto de RCI se ha reducido en más del 80% – pasó de $ 12,3 millones a $ 2.3 millones
• La sala de redacción desaparece, todos los noticieros son cortados.
• RCI ya no será un organismo de radiodifusión, ni  por onda corta ni por satélite
• El público chino sufrirá  censura de noticias de RCI, ya que sólo la onda corta llega a los chinos, el sitio web de RCI está bloqueado por China
• Importantes socios comerciales potenciales, tales como China, India, Rusia, Brasil no tendrán noticias de Canadá, debido a que el sitio web de RCI está bloqueado o porque  Internet no es tan accesible como en América del Norte
• Como canadienses sentimos que es esencial que Canadá tenga una voz en los programas de producción mundial para un público no familiarizado con Canadá
• La Voz de Canadá para el mundo ha sido una fuente de información respetada del periodismo en los últimos 67 años

·        中国听众将无法从加拿大国际广播电台收听到不受审查的、有关加拿大、中国以及国际的新闻。而到目前为止，中国政府依然对加广网络实行屏蔽，所以，中国大陆听众只有通过短波广播才能收听到我们的信息；
·        加拿大几个重要的、有潜力的经济伙伴，如中国、印度、俄国和巴西等国的听众将无法收听到加拿大国际广播电台提供的新闻，因为以上国家的网络要么被封锁，要么并未像北美那样普及；
·        作为加拿大人，我们认为让世界听到加拿大的声音是非常重要的；而向不熟悉我们的听众量身定做节目介绍加拿大，也同样重要；
·        作为有67年历史的新闻机构，加拿大国际广播电台一直是受人尊敬的新闻来源；
如果您居住在加拿大以外，请考虑通过电子邮件向上面提及的三位部长提出自己的意见。如果您居住在加拿大，您可以向部长、联邦议员以及参议员写信提出您的关注，所有信件可以获得免费投寄。
